One week after capturing a championship for himself in the 35+ division of the 8th Annual Dealer Support Series, Urban miscalculated a risky triple jump while practicing, coming up short and breaking his ankle and leg in the process. “Just as things were starting to happen, I sidelined myself with an injury," recalls Urban. "It turned out to be a blessing in disguise!”
Out for 3 months and wanting to stay active in the sport he loves, Urban teamed up with Rob Paxia, owner of PaxTrax, and Ray Petersen, the track’s promoter, to sponsor the First Annual Racing Media Services Fall Photo Finish motocross series.
In applying his advertising and marketing skills, honed during the last ten years as a sales manager for a national automotive marketing agency, Urban raised the bar in the promotion of local and regional motocross events. For example, the Fall Photo Finish Series event featured "AMA National" caliber posters created by award winning designer Michael Rispoli, a 15-year graphic design veteran with over 50 local, regional and national accreditations. Rispoli also created attention-grabbing magazine advertisements and postcards that, it turns out, are being collected by racers like trading cards!
The result? Urban and his agency have been providing marketing support for Pax Trax Motocross Park ever since. “Being asked to handle the marketing for this racing property is a win-win situation” Urban remarks. “It allows the track, the sport, and my agency to grow together.”
